RAYNET Wolverhampton Exercise 12/08/08

Our first exercise of 2008 was to locate  missing persons by the means of map references.

Results for the Wolverhampton exercise are as follows:-

Carver Wolverhampton Marathon 2008

Raynet Wolverhampton will be providing emergency radio support at this years Marathon with the assistance from Sandwell Raynet.

RAYNET Wolverhampton - About us.

RAYNET was formed in 1953 following the severe East Coast flooding, to provide a way of organising the valuable resource that Amateur Radio is able to provide to the community.

Since then it has grown into a very active organisation with around 2000 members, providing communication assistance on many hundreds of events each year.

RAYNET has provided additional communications at major incidents involving aircraft, trains, flooding, evacuations, telephone exchange failure, missing persons searches, adverse weather, oil / chemical pollution, the list goes on.  Examples of where RAYNET has provided support include:-

            Lockerbie Air Crash

            Severn Tunnel Incident

            North Wales Flooding - Towyn

            Portland WWII Bomb Evacuation

            Sea Empress oil pollution disaster

RAYNET, under the terms of the Amateur Radio License, is permitted to pass messages on behalf of the following:-

            Any UK Police Force

            Fire & Rescue Service or Ambulance Trust

            HM Coastguard

            Local Authority Emergency Planning Officers

            Any Health Authority

            Any Government Office

            British Red Cross

            St. John Ambulance Service

            St. Andrews Ambulance Service

            WRVS

            Salvation Army

            Any Utility Company

The Wolverhampton Group consists of a number of amature radio operators who have been licensed for many years as well as several newcomers who have only recently taken an interest in radio as a hobby.

All our members at the Wolverhampton group meet once a month for an update of upcoming events as well as the current status of ongoing services within other groups and locations around the United Kingdom.
